Community and the Environment

Community and the Environment As a community-based organisation, Ireland West Airport Knock is committed to the long-term sustainability of our surrounding communities and the region we serve.

We recognise climate change as a threat to our environment and acknowledge that aviation, alongside other industries and our own personal choices, contribute towards this situation. We are committed to reducing Ireland West Airport’s impact on the environment and encouraging our staff, customers, passengers and suppliers to do likewise.

We are committed to operating and developing the Airport in an environmentally responsible manner, as we continue to improve environmental management systems and to ensure that activities undertaken at Ireland West Airport Knock are carried out in an environmentally responsible manner in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and best practice, and with sensitivity to community and public concerns. The Airport is committed to becoming CO2 neutral by 2012 and is currently finalising a programme of work to achieve this.

As part of our commitment to the environment, Ireland West Airport Knock has included a carbon calculator and offset mechanism on our website. The Airport is pleased to support the carbon offset scheme run by Sustainable Travel International (A Non-Profit Organisation) and will be offsetting all our business travel in this way. We encourage people to use this carbon calculator to work out the emissions from your flight and the amount of money you could contribute to offset these emissions.
