13/11/2013 - Passenger numbers up 10% in October making it the busiest October in the airports 28 year history

Ireland West Airport Knock experienced the busiest month of October in their 28 year history with over 62,000 passengers passing through the airport last month.

Over 46,000 passengers travelled on flights to and from the UK in October, a 6% increase on the same period in 2012 and the seventh consecutive month of passenger growth from the UK market. October also saw a significant increase in passenger numbers travelling to and from popular European sun & city break destinations with numbers increasing by 18%, with 16,000 passengers travelling to and from destinations such as Barcelona, Milan, Malaga, Tenerife, and Faro.

October proved to be an important month for the airport and the region as Ryanair announced three new services to Eindhoven in Holland, Glasgow in Scotland and Kaunas in Lithuania, to start in April 2014, following the recent reduction of the Government travel tax from €3 to €0.  These new services combined with an additional 60,000 new seats on existing London services will see the airport breakthrough the 700,000 passenger mark in 2014 – another milestone for the airport.

Commenting on a record breaking month Joe Gilmore, managing Director, Ireland West Airport Knock said “We are delighted to have experienced our busiest ever October in the airports 28 year history and its hugely positive to see such strong growth in passenger numbers, particularly on our UK services, in a month which saw Flybe commence a new Birmingham service, their third new route from the airport.  Continued passenger growth is a positive development for both the airport and tourism interests in the region and highlights the important role the airport and our airline partners plays in delivering low cost, convenient, direct access to the heart of the West and North West of Ireland’
