€2.8m in funding approved for critical Safety and Security projects

Ireland West Airport today welcomes the announcement that €2,833,585 in funding has been approved for 2026. This funding is being allocated to support 9 projects eligible for support under the Public Policy Remit – Capital (PPR-C) and the CAPEX funding schemes under the Regional Airports Programme 2026-2030. The Programme provides Exchequer support for critical safety and security projects and for the airport’s sustainability initiatives, as the airport undertakes several projects to meet our commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Projects Approved for Capital Investment in 2026:

The airport will invest over €700,000 to support the completion of these projects in addition to the exchequer funding.

Welcoming this announcement, Arthur French, Chairman, Ireland West Airport, said ‘We welcome today’s announcement of funding by the Minister of Transport, Darragh O’Brien TD, of over €2.8m, and acknowledge both the Minister and the Department of Transport for this support for the airport to maintain compliance with relevant EU safety and security regulatory requirements. This funding will support the latest phase of investment by the airport, including a major focus on a range of sustainability initiatives, aimed at futureproofing the airport as we prepare for another strong summer of passenger traffic at the airport”.
