Ireland West Airport welcomes announcement of funding under the Public Policy Remit Operational Expenditure Subvention (PPR-O) Scheme for 2019

(17th December 2019) Ireland West Airport welcomes today’s announcement of funding of €1,736,515 to the airport under the Public Policy Remit Operational Expenditure Subvention (PPR-O) Scheme for 2019.

The Programme provides for Exchequer support to contribute towards the significant operational costs associated with air traffic control, fire, safety and security at the airport.

Arthur French, Chairman of the airport, welcoming today’s announcement said ‘We wish to acknowledge the support of the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD and the continued positive support received from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport in awarding this funding to the airport. We also wish to thank Minister Michael Ring TD and his department for their ongoing support for the airport. We wish to also extend our thanks to local public representatives and local authority partners for their support for the airport throughout the year. 

2019 has proven to be another record breaking year at the airport with passenger numbers set to reach record levels of over 800,000 for the year. Furthermore 2019 saw ongoing investment in our Airport Transformation Programme with a number of infrastructural projects completed during the course of 2019 aimed at transforming the facility and modernizing the airport to ensure the facility will meet the future needs of both our airline customers and passengers. 

The rehabilitation of the airports 2,400 metre runway earlier this year was the single largest capital investment project undertaken by the airport since its initial construction and included a complete resurfacing of the existing runway and taxiway surfaces, the removal and reinstatement of runway edge, centre line, and touch down zone lighting, ducting and other associated works. The completion of this project in September will ensure that the runway at Ireland West Airport continues to meet the strict regulations governing the operation and specification of runways at major airports.
