Assistant Accountant

Ireland West Airport Knock is the main international air access gateway for the West, North West and Midland regions of Ireland. The Assistant Accountant will complete and oversee the accurate and timely recording of the airport’s financial transactions and preparation of management reports for review by the Finance Manager.

Responsibilities include:

Prepare monthly management accounts in a timely and accurate basis for review by the Finance Manager, including all general ledger postings and nominal account reconciliations

Prepare year end accounts to audit stage for review and liaise with external auditors to answer related queries

Work with the Finance Manager to ensure that audit mechanisms and compliance within the finance department are working efficiently

Supervise the operation of the cash control and related cash handling procedures including cash books, bank reconciliations and cash flow forecasts

Completion and filing of all statutory reports – Vat returns, intrastats, Vies and CSO reports

Provide support and training to other members of the finance team

Assist in the monitoring of financial budgets, KPIs and cost control

Keep the Finance Manager appraised of any significant developments within their area of responsibility

Provide assistance to the Finance Manager in developing appropriate business relations with key external contacts including customers, suppliers, banks etc

Assistance with the Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger and Payroll function on an adhoc basis when required

Adhoc finance projects to include system reviews, process improvements and efficiency measures

Generate and present financial reports as required by the Finance Manager and other members of the senior management team.

Any other duties relevant to this position and which can be reasonably expected

Position Requirements:

Applicants must be either a business/finance graduate or a part qualified/qualified accountant with a minimum of 5 years financial experience.

The position requires an individual who:

  •  Has experience working in a busy finance department
  •  Excellent communicator at all levels both inside and outside the organisation
  •  Advanced MS Excel and accounting software experience required
  •  Is a self-motivated, self-starter who demonstrates a consistent ‘can do approach’
  •  Has the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  •  Is reliable, trustworthy, dedicated to maintaining high quality standards and achieving company results
  •  Has good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Has the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
